April Lunsford received a Special Recognition Award from the Mesa F.O.P. for the poem she wrote for her father.  Sgt. Dwayne Lunsford told the Lodge membership that April wrote the poem as a Christmas present for him.  Dwayne said that his family is very close, and this poem from the heart was very precious.

A Police Officer, A Father

I tell you good-bye as you head out the door.
I say "Be careful" and "I love you" once more.
"God will keep you safe while you're working tonight,"
Is what I tell myself when I see your car pull out of sight.
I pray that you come home safe and sound,
For only God knows if dangerous people may come around.
You are a police officer, a father,
And I am a proud, yet scared daughter.
You protect people, you put your life on the line.
I have so much admiration for you, even if I show no sign.
So please Dad, be ever so careful tonight.
Then I say another prayer before turning out the light.
I have a police officer as a father
And I am lucky to be his proud daughter.
